2011 Program For Maine Students

The Program for Maine Students is a chamber music program for Maine advanced-intermediate and advanced string and piano students which includes a one-day mini-festival at the Blue Hill Congregational Church (Saturday, February 5) and a late spring week (June 20 - 25) on the Kneisel Hall campus.

Saturday, February 5

Teachers: Heidi Powell, Richard Hsu

This year's winter program for Maine students will be held February 5, with two extra preparatory rehearsal sessions, dates TBA.

The focus will be on string players ages 9-12. Other slightly younger or older students may be accepted by recommendation from a teacher. The three day program will include working in a chamber music group, being coached by area teachers Heidi Powell & Richard Hsu as well as Kneisel Hall mentors, plus the opportunity to play in a chamber orchestra. Students should be at a Suzuki Book 2-4 level, and have early intermediate sight reading skills. They should have completed most of the String Builder Book 1, or equivalent book of studies, and be familiar with the keys of G, D, A & C.

June 20 - 25

Teachers: Patricia Stowell, Director, piano Scott Woolweaver, viola TBA, cello

Held on the Kneisel campus, this program has two parts: a one-day, June 20th session for string and piano students 9-12 years of age of intermediate ability and a five-day session, June 20- 25, for string and piano students 12 - 19 years of age of advanced ability. Both programs feature Kneisel Hall young artists as mentors, faculty coaching and a final participant program.
