KNEISEL HALL’S “CHAMBER MUSIC GETAWAY” OFFERS DISCOUNTED TICKETS TO FRIDAY GUESTS AT LOCAL INNS

Blue Hill—What sparked as a mid-winter idea to connect more people to chamber music has already turned into a popular opportunity for visitors to the greater Blue Hill peninsula and Deer Isle-Stonington.

Promoted as “Chamber Music Getaway,” Kneisel Hall Chamber Music School and Festival is offering discounted tickets to its Friday Festival concerts for guests staying on Friday nights at Blue Hill Inn and Barncastle in Blue Hill, Pentagöet Inn in Castine, and Pilgrim’s Inn in Deer Isle village.

“With so many visitors to the area in the summer months, together we become hosts to many of the same people who want to make the most of their visit,” Meredith Amado, Executive Director. “We’re all aware of how hard it can be to get tickets to events in the summer. Chamber music is such a unique genre, with small ensembles performing without a conductor, and Kneisel Hall audiences can sit just a few feet away from world-class musicians, feeling intimately part of the music-making. There are so many who fall in love with chamber music and Kneisel Hall once they experience it, so I started reaching out to local inns to see if they were interested in this idea.”

Discounted tickets for Fridays are on the move. “We very much enjoy being a part of and supporting such an artistically rich community, and our guests always rave about what a great experience they have had after attending a concert at Kneisel Hall,” shared Clair and Kim Maxwell, owners of Blue Hill Inn.

Since 1902, Kneisel Hall has entertained summer audiences through a combination of student and faculty chamber performances. “When Franz Kneisel began summering in Maine, he connected with other musicians. Word got out, and music students from New York started making the trip to Blue Hill. Lessons took place during the day, and the faculty of New York and Boston-based professional musicians held public concerts in the evening. An annual music festival was born,” shares Amado. “With a few exceptions, we’ve continued this tradition for over a century.”

Starting this week, Kneisel Hall will welcome music faculty, music students, and a small team of staff who run the music festival. More than 50 performances will take place during its 123rd season.

Friday night guests of participating inns can arrange for discounted tickets when making a reservation.

Ticketing for all performances is available to the public at kneisel.org.

Kneisel Hall is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to foster the art of chamber music through teaching and performance in an intimate environment steeped in tradition and artistic excellence.
